Step 1: Options
The Options step holds the basic settings of your calculator. It is the only step that must be completed before the calculator exists.
Calculator Name
Section titled “Calculator Name”A name for your own reference. It appears in your calculators list and on the Confirm step. Required, up to 100 characters.
Domain
Section titled “Domain”The website the calculator will live on, written as just the domain with no https:// and no path, for example www.yourwebsite.com. Required.
The field is checked when you leave it and again when you press Next. If the value does not look like a domain, an error appears together with up to three Did you mean suggestions. Clicking a suggestion fills the field with that value. Nothing is corrected silently, so you always see what will be saved.
Additional domain (optional). Click the link under the Domain field to reveal a second domain field. Use it when the same calculator is shown on a second website, such as a staging site or a regional domain. It follows the same rules as the main domain.
Language
Section titled “Language”The language of the calculator interface that visitors see. Pick from the list of available languages. The builder itself stays in English.
Storage Type
Section titled “Storage Type”Choose the kind of business the calculator is for, so the calculator is tailored to it.
| Option | Description shown |
|---|---|
| Self Storage | Roll-up door unit |
| Container Storage | Double-door shipping container |
| Mobile Storage | Bookings, made even easier |
| Movers | Moving, made even easier |
Measurement
Section titled “Measurement”Metric (metres and kilograms) or Imperial (feet and pounds). This controls the units shown to visitors and the dimensions you enter on the Units step.
Measurements and Dials
Section titled “Measurements and Dials”Six toggles control what visitors can see and do inside the calculator.
| Toggle | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Display unit volume and space used by items | On | Shows the unit’s volume and how much of it the selected items fill |
| Display total weight of items | On | Shows the combined weight of the selected items |
| Display furniture item dimensions | Off | Shows the size of each item |
| Display storage unit dimensions | Off | Shows the width, depth and height of the recommended unit |
| Allow the user to play, pause and re-play the stacking animation | On | Gives visitors animation controls for the 3D stacking |
| Allow the user to copy selected items | On | Lets visitors duplicate an item they have already added |
Calculation mode
Section titled “Calculation mode”Auto recalculates the recommendation as the visitor adds or removes items. Manual waits for the visitor to press a calculate button.
With Auto selected, an Auto-calculate delay (ms) field appears. This is how long the calculator waits after the visitor’s last change before recalculating. The default is 3000 milliseconds, or three seconds. A shorter delay feels more responsive. A longer delay avoids recalculating while the visitor is still adding items.
Nearest facility (CalcumateGEO)
Section titled “Nearest facility (CalcumateGEO)”If you run more than one facility, CalcumateGEO can serve each visitor the calculator of the facility closest to them.
- Turn on Enable nearest facility.
- Choose a Location method.
- IP estimates the visitor’s position from their internet connection. No permission prompt.
- Device asks the visitor’s browser for their GPS position. More accurate, but the visitor must allow it.
- Manual shows the visitor a location picker.
- Click Manage locations to add your facilities and link each one to a calculator. See Locations.
The Manage locations link is always available, but locations are only shown to visitors once the toggle is on.
CTA URL
Section titled “CTA URL”The page visitors are sent to when they click the call-to-action button, usually your booking or quote page. Enter a full URL including https://, for example https://yourwebsite.com/book-now.
The calculator can append details of the recommendation to this URL as query parameters, such as the number of units. Which parameters are added is set in Advanced settings. Because of this, the URL must be complete and valid. If it is not, you will see an error with Did you mean suggestions, exactly as for the Domain field.
The CTA URL can be left empty if you only collect leads inside the calculator. It is hidden when you have chosen to use a phone number instead of a URL in Advanced settings.
Show Advanced Settings
Section titled “Show Advanced Settings”Opens the Advanced settings drawer, which covers the call-to-action behaviour in detail, the share and bookmark feature, the lead generation form and the URL parameters. See Advanced settings.
What happens when you press Next
Section titled “What happens when you press Next”The name, domain, additional domain and CTA URL are checked. If all are valid, the calculator is created (or updated) and the Units step unlocks. The live preview loads for the first time.
