Step 2: Units

The Units step defines the storage unit sizes your calculator can recommend. The calculator compares the volume of the visitor’s items against these sizes to pick the best fit.

Dimensions use the measurement system chosen on the Options step: metres and kilograms for Metric, feet and pounds for Imperial.

A new calculator starts with four units. You can edit, delete or replace them.

Name Metric (m) Imperial (ft)
Small 2 × 2 × 3 6.56 × 6.56 × 9.84
Medium 3 × 3 × 3 9.84 × 9.84 × 9.84
Large 4 × 4 × 3 13.12 × 13.12 × 9.84
Extra Large 5 × 5 × 3 16.4 × 16.4 × 9.84

Dimensions are width × depth × height.

The box at the top of the step controls how the calculator chooses units.

Allow multiple units per recommendation. On by default. When on, a recommendation may include more than one unit. When off, the calculator always recommends a single unit and a Unit selection heuristic dropdown appears with the rule used to pick that one unit when several sizes could work: Most volume (the default), Smallest unit or Largest unit.

Recommend multiple unit sizes? Appears once you have three or more units. When on, the calculator may suggest a combination of different sizes, such as one Large and one Small, instead of several of the same size. A Number of units dropdown then sets the maximum number of units in a recommendation. The maximum is one less than the number of units you have defined.

Click Add Unit and fill in the form.

Field Required Notes
Unit Name Yes Up to 100 characters, for example “5×5 Unit”
Subheader No A short line shown under the name, for example “Great for a studio apartment”
Additional info No An extra line shown under the unit dimensions, for example “Ground floor access”
Width, Depth, Height Yes Numbers greater than 0, in the current measurement system
Weight Limit No Maximum weight the unit can hold. Leave empty or 0 for no limit.
Reserve URL No A full URL including https://. When set, visitors who click the call to action for this unit go here instead of the main CTA URL.

Click Add Unit in the form to save it. Use the gear icon on a unit in the list to edit it and the bin icon to delete it. Deleting asks for confirmation.

Click Download template to get a CSV file with the expected columns, fill it in, then click Import CSV and choose the file. Imported units are added after the units you already have.

The columns are:

unitName,subheader,additional,unitWidth,unitDepth,unitHeight,weightLimit,reserveUrl
  • unitName, unitWidth, unitDepth and unitHeight are required. The dimensions must be numbers.
  • weightLimit is optional. Empty means no limit.
  • reserveUrl is optional. If present it must be a full URL including https://.
  • The first row must be the header row exactly as in the template.

Rows with problems are skipped and listed under the import summary with the row number, the column and the reason. Fix those rows and import them again, removing the rows that already succeeded so they are not added twice.

The circular arrow button at the top right replaces all units with the default set for your measurement system. A confirmation dialog appears first. After a reset, an undo button appears next to it that restores the units you had before the first reset. The undo stays available until you use it or close the builder.

Press Next to save the units and move to Categories. Each unit was already checked when you added it, so Next does not normally fail here. The Confirm step requires at least one unit before you can publish.
